A Barndominium or Barndo building is a steel-framed building that's finished on the interior for residential use such as a home or cabin.

These buildings are incredibly versatile and customized for your needs so you'll find quite often these barndos include additional space for garages, workshops, or even a barn itself.

Barndominiums and other residential structures in Canada are subject to both the national building code, and the loads and codes set out by local municipalies or towns.

It will be important to know where your building is going in for a Barndo Canada expert to determine the appropriate loads needed.

The foundation type required for your building will be dependent on both personal preference and engineering requirements. When working on foundation plans, an engineer will need to review loads from the building as well as the local soil conditions of your building's location (geotechnical).

For residential buildings the insulation requirements are mandated provincially and part of the corresponding building codes.

The three types of insulation we offer are:

1. Metal Building Insulation - Barndo Canada can have this uncompressed cavity-fill insulation custom-made for both your walls and roof. Its thickness and pricing will vary based on the R-Value required.
2. Sandwich Panel Insulation (Architectural) - This style of insulation uses compressed foam sandwiched between two steel panels. It's a bit more expensive than the other options but provides both energy savings and a beautiful, durable finish. One of the nice benefits is that installation is much simpler than the other insulation methods.
3. Spray Foam Insulation - This type of foam insulation is sprayed onto the interior of the panels to provide insulative value and stop air gaps for optimal efficiency.

Barndo Canada can provide estimates for these types of insulation installed throughout Canada.

Barndo steel buildings are pre-engineered and factory manufactured so holes are drilled and every part is labeled for easier installation. Our team has also put together installation manuals and customer service numbers to assist you throughout the process.

While many people do choose to erect these buildings on their own, an engineer is required after assembly to inspect everything and ensure it was assembled as intended.

Most barndo buildings take approximately 16 weeks from order confirmation to delivery.

There's generally some flexibility in delivery dates so once manufacturing begins, customers may ask for scheduling adjustments.
